How to Disable Facebook’s in App Browser on Android and iOS

H

The Facebook for Android App and its huge list of bugs are two sides of the same coin. To be frank not a day goes by when I don’t come across a bug with the Facebook for Android app. I’ve been using the Facebook app on both Android and iOS and so far in my experience, the Facebook for iOS app is almost bug free.
The most common problem that I faced on the Facebook for Android app was its ability to freeze at random times, even when I was just scrolling across the timeline. I’ve even tried closing all other apps just to free up all the memory for the Facebook app, but that too went in vain.
But the problem that annoyed me the most was the Facebook app opening up links in the in app browser itself. While it’s a good idea for a app to have a built in web browser, but the in app web browser included in the Facebook for Android app isn’t just capable of handling flash and script heavy web pages. Within a minute or so of browsing, the in app browser fends up freezing itself and the facebook app. This is soon followed by a notification that requests to report the bug.
Adding to that the in app web browser in the Facebook for android app doesn’t offer any additional features that comes bundled with traditional web browsers. So it isn’t a full fledged web browser. The web browser is just limited to viewing web pages or saving and sharing the web pages on Facebook.
So for those of you who would like the Facebook for Android app to open web pages in the default Android web browser of your phone. Here’s how you can do so.

How to Disable Facebook’s in App Browser on Android

  • Step 1: Open the Facebook for Android app.
  • Step 2: Tap on the Hamburger Menu icon.

There you go, all the links from the Facebook for Android app will be opened in your Android phone’s default web browser.

Unfortunately the same option isn’t available on iOS yet, so you don’t have any other choice rather than using the Facebook for iOS app’s in app browser.
However you can tap on the Share option and select Open in Safari to open the current web page in Safari on iOS.
